The blizzard of 2010!

It's been a hellava weekend, weather-wise. 17 inches (more or less) of snow dumped on us in less than a 24-hour period, starting late Friday night. It was a true blizzard, with snow falling and a wicked wind swirling the snow all around. For most of Saturday, visibility was so poor that we couldn't even see the river. This is the biggest storm that Mpls/St. Paul has seen since 1991 (the Halloween Blizzard). City buses suspended service and even the plows were pulled off the road for a bit. I was happy to be safe at home. And even happier that my kids were safe in their homes as well.

The picture below was taken Saturday when visibility was actually improving. Do you see that one lone car parked on the upper level of the lot across the street from us?

And today...

That lot did get plowed and that car just left the lot!

I made my way to my Jax studio, just three blocks away. The streets were barely passable and the sidewalks...NOT passable! It will take days to dig out from this! And now it is very, very cold...single digits! Brr... But folks are pitching in and helping each other dig out...

We already have 2/3 the average amount of snowfall for a season. I don't think we're going to be "average" this winter. But we've been on the low end for a few winters now, so I guess we're "due". Sometimes there's just no place to put the snow...a problem I think we'll be dealing with quite a bit this winter.

At least today the sun was shining...and that always helps! My studio was warm and cozy and I had a lovely time painting. I so want to show pictures, but I was working on a painting for my daughter's holiday present. I think she'll like it!

Hope all of you are warm and safe this winter night!

Risa I don't think anybody is going to be average this year. We already have had about 2 feet here and just south of me about 40 mile away had 6 feet. And we are bracing for another storm. We have learned to go with the flow. Plus we have excellent road crews clearing the roads. Stay warm.

My goodness! Look at all that white stuff. I most certainly don't miss it, sistah! It's like 80+ degrees here. Un-seasonaal weather for us. But, I don't want to trade ya. I WAS there for the Halloween Blizzard. We were snowed in for over a week, up on the Iron Range. Thanks for sharing the pics tho'. Good luck getting everything sorted out. Happy your family is all safe. Stay warm. Tina/redopal

Wow you guys did get hit hard!
Last night we got a little bit of snow, just a few inches, but the worse was the flash freeze over night. I couldn't get into my car, the doors were frozen shut, and I was a minute away from calling my boss, lol!
Love the snow, not crazy about the cold
stay warm and enjoy painting
